Overview

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

The ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and medical management of multiple service lines of adult oncology patients at SCCA. They follow patients during their chemotherapy and provide medical supportive care, as well as surveillance after completion of treatment. The ARNP/PA-C may work on a variety of oncology teams to assess and manage basic health needs of patients, address treatment toxicities, perform procedures, monitor for cancer progression or recurrence, and consult with professional peers as needed. They work collaboratively with the treatment team to coordinate care of their patients. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and under the supervision of an attending physician.

Responsibilities

  • Work at one of  our satellite community oncology clinics
  • Coordinate the complex care of cancer patients undergoing both systemic anti-cancer therapy and radiation therapy
  • Manage side-effects of these therapies
  • Order appropriate laboratory and radiographic studies
  • Prescribe medications and refer patient to other specialists as necessary
  • Provide for post-treatment cancer patients follow-up visits for the medically indicated period after completion of treatment
  • As part of a multidisciplinary team, they will provide psychological support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching and refer patients to community agencies and other resources to promote optimal adjustment and functioning 
  • Lead other clinical staff
  • Accountable for the work required in this position
  • This clinic provides a broad range of services including GI, Lung, GU, Breast, and Hematologic Malignancies and Radiation therapy.

Qualifications

  • Must be a graduate of a Physician Assistant training program or appropriate Nurse Practitioner program and be able to practice in the state of Washington (licensed). 
  • Three years of ARNP or PA-C experience in Medical Oncology
  • Strong team player with a can-do attitude is a must
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Washington state & DEA licensure
  • ACLS certification
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • EMR experience
