Responsibilities

The Specimen Processing Services Specialist I will primarily perform phlebotomy in a high volume specimen collection area. In addition may performs lab tests, and processes on patient samples or products which involves operating analytical instruments. 

  • Performs venipuncture phlebotomy on patients where required
  • Performs specimen processing of blood specimens
  • Able to learn computer skills in a timely manner 
  • Processes specimens including centrifugation, aliquoting, and dispensing specimens to proper lab processing and sendout sites
  • Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance programs and projects
  • Records variances of standard policies and procedures in Patient Safety Net accurately and where required
  • Has the ability to work under pressure and adjust to changing workloads
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Meets attendance and punctuality expectations

Qualifications

Required:

  • High school graduation or the equivalent
  • Completion of phlebotomy training course
  • Washington state MA/Phlebotomist certification (or sponsored by SCCA if competency assessment and training are completed)
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs
  • Proficient in the use of email, and data entry in a Windows-based environment

Preferred:

  • Clinical lab experience
  • Specimen handling and processing experience including accessioning, centrifuge, aliquoting, sendouts and blood banking
  • EPIC/Cadence, answering phones/handling phone inquiries from patients and staff
