The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

Working under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Billing Specialist interacts with patients and health care providers to perform a variety of specialized billing tasks. This position will serve as backup for pharmacy technicians as needed for patient care, and be responsible for other duties as assigned.


Expected Start Date:  July 1st


  • Interacting with third party payers to identify and correct ambulatory patient billing issues
  • Entering prescription orders into pharmacy system, including billing prescriptions appropriately and accurately
  • Evaluate patterns in denied claims taking corrective action and educating staff as needed
  • Prepare SCCA Check Requests to address patient billing error refunds
  • Liaison with Patient Financial Services
  • Serve as a resource to patients and staff regarding billing questions
  • Provide patient assistance program information and education to providers, patients and medical center staff
  • Work closely with the clinical care team in obtaining medication for qualified patients
  • Clearance of specialty and high cost medications
  • Prepare prescriptions for mail order program



  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Washington state Pharmacy Technician Certification
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
  • Familiar with the generic names of drugs along with their basic indication.
  • Able to perform basic pharmaceutical calculations
  • Ability to use a mouse, navigate computer programs, enter data into computer systems in accurately and efficiently
  • Completing and submitting prior authorization forms and patient assistance applications
  • Reprocessing denied or rejected third party claims
  • Review and correct discrepancies identified in daily, weekly and monthly billing reports


  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records preferred
  • Ability to operate a Point of Sale system
