Overview

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.


The Director of Cancer Care for the SCCA/Overlake Cancer Center serves as the service line leader for cancer services offered by Overlake and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA). This position bridges both organizations to help achieve clinical, service, and operational excellence and reports to both SCCA and Overlake leadership.

Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Provides Cancer Service Line management and administration of cancer center in order to ensure accomplishment of organizational mission and objectives as determined by Joint Cancer Program Executive Leadership Committee
  • Leads the development and monitoring of cancer center strategic and operational goals and objectives
  • In conjunction with Overlake and SCCA planning teams conducts strategic planning projects with site specific teams, identifies clinical and resource needs to expand program
  • Develops and maintains standard monthly and quarterly reports related to patient and service volumes, migration, payer, mix, financial performance, quality and service performance
  • Serves as resource person to Overlake and SCCA Medical Staff and Overlake personnel regarding Cancer Center issues
  • Maintains communication with steering committees, Cancer Committee, Clinical and Operational Leaders, as well as coordination with Overlake and SCCA departments
  • Serves as a member of Overlake and SCCA leadership/management groups, represents the Cancer Center and ensures compliance with standards and policies
  • Works with Overlake and SCCA Marketing teams to maintain accountability for all marketing and outreach operations for cancer center


Operations

  • In conjunction with Overlake and SCCA operational leadership, benchmarks performance against appropriate regional and national measures
  • In conjunction with Overlake and SCCA operational leadership, leads analysis to understand barriers to patient access and implement actions to expand access
  • Plans, organizes, and directs all cancer center activities in accordance with established standards of patient care
  • Maintains working relationships with Overlake and SCCA Department Leaders, Faculty and Medical Staff of the parent organization
  • Develops and recommends changes to effect continual improvement of quality, efficiency, economy and effectiveness of cancer center operations and services
  • Plans, resources, develops and monitors multidisciplinary team-based care to support quality outcomes

 

Fiscal and Regulatory

  • Responsible for advising on and collaborating with Overlake and SCCA leadership to develop and monitor operational and capital budgets
  • Responsible for overall compliance with laws/standards/regulations affecting cancer center and works with Overlake and SCCA operations leadership to comply with joint requirements:
    • Department of Health (King County and WA State)
    • Joint Commission
    • American College of Surgeons - Commission on Cancer
    • American College of Radiology
    • College of American Pathologists
    • National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
    • NCCN - National Comprehensive Cancer Network

Quality

  • Ensures cancer center adherence with quality standards and initiatives as required by parent institutions, government agencies, and accrediting bodies
  • Develops and leads quality initiatives
  • Develops and implements approved departmental policies, procedures, systems and standards
  • Identifies risk management improvement opportunities, aligned with Overlake and SCCA policies and plans appropriate action


Marketing and Outreach

  • In conjunction with Overlake and SCCA marketing departments, develops messaging, materials and media content to promote cancer center in the community
  • Maintains working relationships with local cancer associations and community resources
  • Represents the cancer center in educational and outreach activities in the community
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field or business administration
  • 5 years overall experience in the Oncology field
  • 3 years of experience in project management and administrative oversight of clinical areas
  • 2 years of experience in service line development and operation of clinical service areas including inpatient, outpatient, physician office and/or homecare/hospice
  • 2 years of experience with clinical leadership of a cancer center, physicians in private practice and/or with academic partners

 

DESIRED:

  • Master’s degree in healthcare related field or business administration
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Lean methodology
