    The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

    The Part Time Apheresis Program Assistant will support the Apheresis unit in daily operations, educational session logistics, project management, and research coordination. This role will work with the staff nurses in patient care coordination, billing, and procedure scheduling. The Program Assistant is a valuable member of the team and is an operational liaison for alliance members and supports the Apheresis leadership group. This role will partner with 2 Apheresis Project Coordinators in providing office support and assistance to the professional practice coordinators and staff nurses to maintain smooth flow of the unit. Our team endorses continuous process improvement so this member will be expected to identify possible areas of improvement within the unit and take projects from initiation to completion in a timely, effective manner.


    Program Assistant Duties

    • Apheresis staff meeting logistics
    • Manage staff evaluation logistics
    • Department Operations Liaison - attend and represent Apheresis in various administrative meetings; host unit tours/observations
    • Support daily operations - identify and resolve operational issues, communicate with APH Nursing Supervisor and serve as the liaison between Apheresis and Facilities
    • Manage inventory and ordering of office supplies
    • Act as primary support for the Apheresis Manager
    • Support the needs of RNs, MA, and Nursing Supervisor as needed – support on-boarding and unit orientation for new staff
    • Assist with other tasks/projects to improve the overall operation of the department

    Backup Duties

    • Answer incoming phone calls to the Apheresis unit
    • Manage inventory and order forms
    • Create and send out department newsletter
    • Data entry and data management support
    • Schedule Apheresis appointments and check in/out patients in EPIC
    • Verify financial clearance for treatment
    • Research project/study liaison for Apheresis
    • Initiate projects, programs, or systems to improve overall operation of department


    • High school graduate or equivalent required, BA/BS in a related field preferred
    • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Capable of working in a dynamic healthcare environment, with the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively
    • Able to take initiative for making process/workflow improvements
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint
    • At least 3 years of administrative experience preferred
    • Familiarity with Healthcare Information Software, specifically Cerner and EPIC applications preferred
