Overview

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. Over the past 25 years, these institutions have worked together to support their mission of adult and pediatric oncology patient care services, research and education.

 

Provides strong leadership to the Volunteer Services department and support to the Housing and Retail programs of the SCCA.  Supervises Volunteer Coordinator.  Responsible for implementing strategic direction of the Volunteer Program, as well as implementation of goals and policies in the Housing and Retail programs.  Evaluates housing needs and develops plan to increase occupancy as patient needs expand.  This position oversees the in-kind donations program and partners with community donors and businesses, as well as our development staff to properly report and acknowledge in-kind gifts.

Responsibilities

  • Develops strategies for recruitment and on-boarding of volunteers to foster growth.
  • Identifies and builds new volunteer roles in partnership with clinical leadership.
  • Leads patient event planning (holiday) and implementation.
  • Administer the in-kind donations program – liaison with development and marketing to acknowledge donors and promote giving.
    Staff liaison to the Volunteer Advisory Council.
  • Develops operational policies for housing program, specifically related to emergency management, occupancy and utilization and relationship with Property Management staff.
  • Develop and implement marketing and growth strategies with our retail team to expand business.
  • Provide after hours support for emergencies related to Housing, Volunteer, Retail programs; responsible for critical decisions related to facility and patient needs during these events. Expand supportive care emergency response procedures.
  • Leads CPI efforts to provide effectively evaluate data, monitor program utilization and improve access to services.
  • Supervise volunteer coordinator and some oversight over administrative coordinator.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in healthcare or hospitality with direct patient/client interaction.  Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, complex health care environment.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize concurrent responsibilities and demands.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative as evidenced by advancing technical skills, sharing knowledge with others and taking on more responsibility.
  • Advanced ability in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and PeopleSoft (requisitioning).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team as the situation requires.
  • Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner.
  • Ability to navigate team and organizational dynamics.
  • Ability to prepare, monitor and interpret budgets including analysis of variances.
  • Knowledge of volunteer basics (recruitment, retention, training and recognition) in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability and comfort with public speaking, training groups of 30 people, and representing the program/organization at community events.
