This position provides assistance to physicians, providers, and patients for the maintenance of the ambulatory medical record, on paper and electronically, for all SCCA Clinics.  Supports HIM functions including, but not limited to: Scanning, transcription, hospital admissions, research consenting, external monitoring, and BMT daily census.  Serves as liaison with providers, clinical staff, patients, and external partners.  Responsible for:

  • Auditing of patient records to comply with insurance/regulatory audit requests.
  • Participating in any and all aspects of scanning of PHI into EHR.
  • Performing release of patient information processes in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Meeting productivity standards, as determined by HIM leadership.
  • Assisting with cross coverage in the HIM department by training others and learning new tasks.
  • Performing other reasonably-related HIM duties, as assigned by HIM leadership.


  • Highly organized and detail oriented with ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer data entry skills.
  • Ability to interact with many types of internal and external customers in a flexible, accommodating manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate well (in both verbal and written formats) with patients, staff, and providers.
  • Knowledge of health information management operations and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment based upon departmental policies and procedures.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office Suite applications, ORCA, Epic, Mindscape, and scanning software.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited Health Information Management program or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum one year experience in healthcare environment required.
  • RHIT/RHIA certification preferred.
