Department Overview:  The Strategic Outreach and Affiliate Network department oversees an array of responsibilities in the service of Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s goal of improving cancer care, regionally and beyond. They strive to further the reach of the SCCA’s expertise and knowledge by fostering relationships locally, regionally and nationally.  As external ambassadors of the organization they manage a diverse body of work including overseeing the Affiliate Network Program and managing physician outreach and education for the organization.    

 

Affiliate Network Program:  The Affiliate Network Program provides community-based physicians and hospital systems throughout the broader region with access to the latest cancer diagnostic, novel therapeutics, and trials and treatment information.  Through this collaborative effort, SCCA hopes to speed the flow of scientific information among researchers, clinicians and patients and improve the standard of cancer care available throughout the region. Relationships between community-based clinical staff and SCCA are fostered through a variety of avenues including education, program support, partnership on clinical research and deep engagement with our staff and more.

 

Physician Outreach:   Physician Outreach efforts ensure community practices and providers throughout the region are aware of the comprehensive, cutting-edge services available at SCCA and the expert care available to patients. Through this work they aim to strengthen partnerships with community institutions and healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care of patients and create a communication channel between SCCA and referring partners. They also foster relationships and collaborate with patient advocacy groups to ensure this same information is shared with the patient-community. The continuing medical education component of the work further supports these efforts by ensuring faculty and researchers have the opportunity to provide education to the community on latest discoveries and changes to treatment standards.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities of the Director

As a member of the Strategy and Business development team and in partnership with the Medical Director, the Director is responsible for developing and implementing of the strategy for the Affiliate Network and Physician Outreach programs to ensure they are aligned with the overall strategic vision for the organization.   The Director oversees and drives the functions and activities within the department to ensure successful execution of the strategy. The Director is responsible for fostering strong, collaborative relationships with key leadership roles within SCCA and its Alliance partners, including, but not limited to, Director of Service Line Management, Director of Marketing, Director of Research Integration, Director of Contracting/Public Affairs, and physician leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with Medical Director define a clear Affiliate Network Program strategy and success metrics for SCCA and Affiliate sites, with input from key partner functions throughout the organization including Research Integration, Quality, Marketing, Legal, Service Line Management, Physician leadership and Clinical Operations
  • Oversee implementation of the Affiliate Network strategy for each site and monitor performance toward agreed upon success metrics
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with community providers throughout the WWAMI region and beyond in concert with SCCA’s strategic direction and informed by an understanding of the current health care market and opportunities
  • Support new business development as needed efforts in line with SCCA objectives
  • Refine Physician Outreach approach in partnership with Service Line Management to ensure resources of outreach program are being used as effectively as possible
  • Provide direction and leadership to staff to ensure efficient and effective operations, quality service, and adherence to the purpose and vision of Seattle Cancer Care Alliance
  • Coordinate services provided to Network Affiliates in areas such as Research Integration, Marketing and Quality.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key administrative/senior leadership and medical leadership at all partner and affiliate member sites
  • Shape the strategy for the future growth of the network and outreach programs; establish and develop strategic goals for the programs
  • Direct the development and management of budgets
  • Ensure communications with institutional policies and procedures and with all legal, regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Maintain and enhance professional growth and development to keep abreast of changes and trends
  • Collaborate with member institutions to support development activities for programmatic education and public understanding
  • Collaborate with industry and others to generate funding in support of strategic outreach and education
  • Others as needed as identified

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education/Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree Minimum
  • Degree in nursing, genetic counseling, social work or other medical field preferred
  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in related areas (e.g., provider outreach, service line management, healthcare marketing, etc.)  
  • Administrative experience in an academic or ambulatory center is preferred

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate teams to achieve desired outcomes
  • Is dedicated to meeting the expectations of both internal and external stakeholders to establish and maintain effective relationships with the goal of building trust and respect in a collaborative working relationship

  • Must work well under pressure and be able to work across complex organizational structures
  • Understanding of oncology clinical practices, regional market dynamics and trends and emerging research managed  
  • Travel is necessary
